The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is a private Catholic university located in San Antonio, Texas. As with previous responses, please note that my knowledge is current up to September 2021, and some information may have changed since then.

1. History: UIW was founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, a congregation of Catholic women religious who were invited to San Antonio to establish a hospital and an orphanage. The institution began as the Incarnate Word School and eventually expanded to become a college in 1909. It was granted university status in 1996 and has continued to grow since then.
